It's probably a misconception that medical expenses are the leading cause of insolvency (some research pegs it at only around 4%), but everybody agrees that if you're extended too thin economically, and then you have a tremendous medical cost on top of that, it isn't excellent. Incidentally, when the Affordable Care Act was initially passed, you needed to pay a penalty tax for going without health coverage unless you satisfied certain exemption requirements, including financial difficulty.
(If you were uninsured in 2018, you will be penalized on your 2021 tax type for that.)So, sure, you might argue: "Hey, no charge. I don't require to get medical insurance." You could argue that, but please do not.
